22 Feb IU Ventures invests in Boardable, IU-alumni founded developer of board management software
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – IU Ventures, the early-stage venture and angel investment arm of Indiana University, has invested in Indianapolis-based technology firm Boardable, a developer of online board management software. IU Ventures’ investment was part of Boardable’s recently closed Series A financing round, which netted the company $2.6 million.
Boardable was co-founded in 2016 by IU alums Jeb Banner, the company’s former CEO, and Joe Downey, a senior developer.
Boardable’s industry-leading platform facilitates communication and collaboration in real time by providing its customer base, which includes numerous non-profit and volunteer organizations, with a centralized and secure location to access relevant documents, manage meetings, hold discussions, and take polls. Its service has increased the engagement and effectiveness of large-scale boards and committees whose members are geographically, technologically and organizationally diverse.
“IU Venture’s support of Boardable in our most recent round of funding was critical,” said Banner. “It signaled to other investors that we had the support of an experienced, trusted investor, and it gave us the funds to execute a plan that now has us on track to be sustainable for years to come.”
“As an IU grad, and father of a recent IU grad as well, I am grateful to have my alma mater supporting me as I build businesses that create great jobs for Hoosiers of all backgrounds … even the ones from Purdue.”
Last month, Boardable released its largest product update to date: a new integration with Google Workspace and enhancements in design, security and user experience. The update represents the latest in major improvements Boardable has recently made to improve its product’s functionality and user experience. Boardable has also partnered with leading SaaS companies, such as Indianapolis-based Salesforce, to find technological solutions to help boards improve their performance.
“As a proud alumnus from the IU O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, I know firsthand the caliber of talent that comes from this top-tier program. Boardable can benefit O’Neill alumni, a generation of leaders who are working hard every day to make a positive difference in their communities,” said Jason Whitney, Chief Venture Officer at IU Ventures.
Boardable currently has approximately 2,000 customers across 41 countries, and it serves companies ranging from small- and medium-sized businesses to large enterprises. Boardable’s clients can choose from a range of plans that are structured to scale with the growth and experience of their organizations — from basic-level, “essential” services that will help them streamline their board experience to multi-level “enterprise” solutions for global board and committee meetings.
